Northern Youth Ask Health Minister to Reinstate NHIS Boss or be sued
Group under the aegis of Northern Youth Development Association in 19 States on Thursday urged the Minister of Health to with immediate effect revert the suspension of National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS Executive Secretary Professor Yusuf Usman or face legal action.
The youth described the suspension as illegal and therefore gave 24 hours ultimatum to the Minister to change his decision or they will sue him.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, the group Chairman Imran Wada Nas said Nigeria will never progress if innocent hardworking individuals are punished for only doing their jobs as expected of them.
He said the minister forget the fact that he was not the person that appointed the NHIS Executive Secretary and therefore has no right to fire or suspend him.
” The NHIS Executive Secretary position has a tenure which means that the minister opt to have known that he cannot just wake up and suspend the Executive Secretary because they had a disagreement.
” This is why we are calling on the minister to peaceful reverse his decision on the NHIS Executive Secretary or face legal action. Because we as Youth of this region we cannot fold our arms to watch our respective, incorruptible elder and a man of integrity being disgraced for refusing to be corrupt by given out returns to those in authority like the minister,” he said.
The youth leader also urged President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Osinbajo to immediate call the minister to order and to equally investigate his action against the Suspended Executive Secretary.
“We are authoritively aware that they suspended Professor Yusuf Usman because he is a man of due process. He is a man that always want to see things done in the right away and manner in conformity with the present administration fight against corruption .
” We are also not comfortable with the 12 man committee set up to investigate the NHIS Executive Secretary because 6 out of the committee members are believed to be corrupt and will not do justice to the Executive Secretary and also no staff of the NHIS is in the committee this shows the bias of those who set up the committee, ”
The group said if within the expiration of the 24 hours ultimatum the minister failed to return the NHIS boss to his position they will equally write against him to ICPC, EFCC and DSS to investigate his activities and some of his illegal antecedents.
