Kaduna State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development on Wednesday organized a Women’s Economic Empowerment Summit .
The event, which is the second edition of the programme is designed to create a platform and strategise for better connection with women with a view to ” Ensure that gender equity and social inclusion are understood and integrated into all affairs of government ,private and community .”
In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs , Hajiya Hafsat Baba who explained that the summit began in 2015 with Gender and Business ,GAB Platform ,said the 2017 edition is organised to explore knowledge ,information ,technology and social linkages to enable women participate as full and informed players in business environment .
She stated, ” Through the interactions , we discovered the need to work closely with our people to better understand the issue ,think together and jointly proffer solutions to issues of mutual concern ”
According to her , to achieve the aim begin the summit, the Ministry sought and got approval of the State Executive Council to appoint Gender Focal Persons to ensure the inclusion of indicators and budgets that are responsive to women ,girls ,persons with disabilities and the poor generally into the sector implementation plans of all MDAs .
While stating that the summit is planned to have eight syndicate groups with different topics on: Agriculture, Commerce ,Education ,Health, Land and Rural Development ,Social Development ,Governance and Peace, she emphasised, ” The Peace Syndicate is going to be sustained standing forum with members inaugurated as Peace Ambassadors of Kaduna State ”
Hajiya Baba however , expressed gratitude to development partners such as Enhancing Nigerian Advocacy for a Better Business Environment, ENABLE2, Mobilising for Development ,M4D, Voice for Change ,V4C ,Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme ,NSRP,Power Oil, Synago and UNILEVER for their technical support .
While acknowledging the physical presence and support of Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his wife Hajiya Hadiza Isma El-Rufai , she equally commended the Gender Focal Persons for working tirelessly to ensure success of the programme .
In his brief remark , Kaduna State Governor , Malam Nasir El-Rufai commended the Ministry of Women for organising the summit and promised to support the initiatives it comes up to better lots of women and girl-child in the state.
El-Rufai however , challenged the participants at the summit to come up with a clear roap map and task the government needs to support women in the State .
According to him , the government places high priority on girl-child education and it has made eduction not only free ,but compulsory for them .
The governor who disclosed that his administration recognises the important role of women in the society , said the government is committed to creating more opportunities for women through its policies .
Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of award of recognition to wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Isma El-Rufai and others for their invaluable contribution to promotion and development of girl-child education as well as women empowerment .
