By John Femi Adi:
Members of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria ,IPMAN ,Kaduna Unit converged on Nasman Filling Station,Barnawa ,Kaduna South Local government area,Kaduna ,North-West Nigeria at the weekend to strategize on how best to conduct a hitch-free election ,come May 13th,2017.
After intense discussions and arguments, majority of the members finally settled for Alhaji Bala Usman ,who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Director of Himshat Petroleum Nigeria for Chairman and Solomon Ehizogie ,Chairman , Sharon Petroleum Nigeria Limited for Secretary respectively.
In an interview with journalists after the meeting , Alhaji Bala Usman who is contesting for Chairmanship position said he decided to vie because the association lacks good leadership and promised to bridge the vacuum if elected.
He pointed out that Kaduna IPMAN is completely down and needs to wake up to its responsibilities of ensuring fuel supply by bridging the gap between product and products availability.
“Where there is no good leadership in a union there is every possibility that problems will always surface among members.
“The only way such vacuum can be filled up is to have people with vision , integrity, commitment and concern for development to rise up to the occasion and take up the challenge to provide that much desired good leadership we have all been yearned for .
“If we have good leadership ,the kind of problems , we are experiencing now at the KRPC depot will not be there . IPMAN is completely down and needs to wake up to its responsibilities of ensuring fuel supply and bridging the gap between product and products availability.
“We believe ,it is only when the good ones vie for position that we can have that purposeful leadership and we are willing to do just that if elected Insha Allah, ” he said.
On his plans for the association he explained” ,We intend to make IPMAN united and formidable union of Petroleum Marketers that Kaduna people and Nigerians used to know .
“It obvious that the system is grounded and there is need to change this retrogressive image .If you heard me , when I was addressing our members during the strategic meeting held ,I said it is pathetic and unfair to have filling stations c looking abandoned and directors looking bad because such fillings have not got products for a long period.
“Sometimes over a period of six months reasons for this we know is absence of good leadership .This is not the kind of IPMAN , we are talking about. If elected we have plans to correct all these anomalies , provide members with the right leadership and operate an open door policy for all irrespective of tribe, background or religion.
” We hope to also ensure that products are evenly distributed and every marketer gets his due as at when due .Each time I pass through a road and a filling station worth millions abandoned ,I feel very bad and this ugly sight must change.”
Also in a chat with journalists after the Barnawa meeting ,the current Secretary of IPMAN ,Kaduna Unit , Solomon Ehizogie ,who attributed the problem facing IPMAN in Kaduna to lack of purposeful leadership ,assured the Petroleum Marketers in the state of a free and fair election.
According to Ehizogie ,who is recontesting for Secretary of the Marketers union, said it is high time members of IPMAN ,realised the need to vote credible and dependable leaders to steer affairs of IPMAN in Kaduna .
He however , called on members to be law abiding and remain calm ,noting, ” Election will come and go but relationship among members is paramount “.
He therefore urged members to vote tested and trusted leaders such as Alhaji Bala Usman and his ” Humble Self ” as Chairman and Secretary for the right and needed leadership.
