The Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Kaduna State Governor Mr.Samuel Aruwan said against the erroneous believe in some quarters that , Governor Nasir El-Rufai led administration is out to clamp down on journalists in the State, he’s genuinely receptive to media and journalists .
According Aruwan , when journalists discharge their duties within the dictates of the law , it is impossible for any government to clamp down on them .
The Spokesman , who disclosed during the maiden monthly Interactive Forum of NUJ,Kaduna Council urge journalists to report facts and always balance their storiez before filing them .
Aruwan ,who explained that the state government and security agencies has no intention of victimizing any reporter, but rather to ensure that moral conduct is observed among the citizens, also urged NUJ to ensure that members abide by the ethics of the profession.
In an attempt to seperate what he termed ‘a personal grudge’ from journalism practice, Aruwan said,”It is unfortunate that some people hide under the canopy of media to express their grievances and discontent through reportage of bias and untrue stories. ”
He explained further that managing a state ,with about 390 districts is not an easy task, pointing that a single dose of wrong information administered to people can led to crisis hence, issue in Kaduna is subjected to 3 interpretations, and as such, religious , political or ethnic.
“Kaduna government has never for once denied having security challenges, but journalists on the other hand should ensure accurate reportage to avoid further escalation of issues on ground.” He stressed.
He however , said in a case where a journalist is queried for publication of wrong report, such should not be attributed to El-Rufai as a means of witch-hunt.
Meanwhile, Aruwan maintained that there are some aggrieved reporters who have seized the opportunity of media heterogeneity to misinformed the masses.
Citing example that, “When security agencies invites Journalists in Kaduna for wrong doing, the whole blame would be put on top of Governor Nasir El-Rufai. And this is not correct.
