El-Rufai not sick, commences PhD programme in UN University, Netherlands

Contrary to speculations that Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state is sick, investigation has shown that the Governor is hale and hearty, as he enrolled as a PhD student of Governance and Policy Analysis at the United Nations University – Merit, Netherlands.

Considering that el-Rufai traveled abroad about the same time when the rumour about President Muhammadu Buhari’s ill health was rife, there were insinuations that the Governor was unwell and flown abroad for medical treatment.

But that rumour has been put to rest, as the Governor has been confirmed to be quite well and busy engaged in academic activities at the UN University, while Acting Governor Barnabas Bala Bantex hold forte at home, even as he is expected back home this weekend.

El-Rufai, who was a first class quantity surveyor graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is also an alumni of Harvard University.

According to an online post by the United Nations University – Merit dated March 7th, 2017 at 8:23pm:”United Nations University – Merit. Yesterday a new batch of students started our Dual Career Training Programme to obtain a PhD in governance and Policy Analysis (GPAC2). Good luck to all!”

Another tweet by one of the university’s lecturers said: “I’m looking forward to teaching H.E.@elrufai in November, student at UNU Merit/Maastricht University.”

Governor El-Rufai was also seen wearing black jacket and trouser in a group picture of some of the United Nations University students and lecturers.

UNU, Merit,, a research and training institute of United Nations University and Maastricht University, based in the South of the Netherlands has been closely involved in research for a variety of UN agencies, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank and is ranked 6th among the world best universities.

All efforts to confirm the true state of Governor el-Rufai”s health was abortive as the Governor’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, proved abortive.

But Acting Governor, Barnabas Bala Bantex revealed the arrival date of the Governor from his study leave when he told journalists after the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday that “the President asked of Governor Nasir el-Rufai and I told him that the Governor is expected back in the country on the 19th”.
