Bauchi lawmakers in Kaduna to under-study KADIPA
Bauchi State House of Assembly members on Wednesday visited Kaduna to under-study the Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA), with a view to establishing a similar agency in Bauchi.
Leader of the delegation and Deputy Majority Leader, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Sa’ad Abdulkadir said Kaduna is one of the best places that we can come and get very useful information that will help us in enacting a law for our state.
He said, the state assembly was working on an executive bill to establish investment promotion agency for Bauchi State, hence the need for them to visit states like Kaduna where the agency is already operational, to learn on how to go about it and Kaduna is the best place to visit.
Speaking with the newsmen, shortly after a meeting with management of KADIPA, the Bauchi lawmaker said they have learnt a lot about how the agency was conceived, how it is organised and its operations.
According to him, “This is a delegation from Bauchi State House of Assembly. We are members of the House Committee on Commerce and Industry. We are here in Kaduna to compare note and see how we come up with a good law that will establish the Bauchi State Investment Promotion Agency.
“We received a draft bill from the executive as regards to the establishment of the agency and we felt, one of the best ways to go get valid information is to go round and see where such agency has already taken off. So, we felt Kaduna is one of the best places that we can come and get very useful information that will help us in enacting a law for our state.
“We have learnt a lot about how the agency was conceived, how it is organised, how it operates and others. We have really had a fruitful discussion. We are going back to Bauchi State with a lot of knowledge, a lot experience that will guide us in shaping the law that will establish the agency in Bauchi State.
“Investment promotion is a reality we have to come to terms with, especially now that value of oil which is the mainstay of the nation’s economy is has dropped. So, we have to explore other means of generating revenue for the government to operate.
“So, that is why the government is thinking of investment promotion to bring out our potentials and market them to the world for investors to come and invest in our economy”, he said.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA), Malam Gambo Hamza told the the Bauchi State delegate the success story of the agency in Kaduna State, saying it has attracted multi million dollars investment to the state.
He emphasized on the need for sensitization of the senior Civil Servants and Commissioners of the investment related Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to make them understand that the agency will not take away their jobs or duplicate their duties.
Hamza also intimated the delegation of the need to face-lift the city and the investment related MDAs to make them attractive to the investors.
The seven-man delegation from Bauchi held an interactive session with top management of KADIPA where heads of units in KADIPA made presentation to the Bauchi lawmakers.
