The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna State Chapter has vowed to reject any attempt to introduce the use of electronic voting in the anticipated local government elections in the state.
Kaduna PDP Chairman ,Mr. Hassan Hyet stated this in his speech during the swearing-in ceremony of the Kaduna North PDP ward executives.
Hyet ,who was represented at the occasion by the party’s secretary in the state, stated emphatically that, “If the information we are gathering concerning the anticipated and long over due local government elections in the state is anything to go by, that is, the introduction of electronic voting for local government polls, we will reject it”.
He therefore called on party members to get set more than ever before to ensure that the party gets back that which rightfully belong to her, stressing that”the leadership of the party both at the national and state level is working relentlessly to bounce back in 2019 and in all elections before then, so we urge you at the local government and ward levels to key in.
“We are proud of your commitments and we are witnesses to the pains and sufferings the present government have subjected Nigerians to, that is why we are calling on all and sundry that all hands must be on deck to ‘Change the Change’ come 2019” Hyet stated.
He reiterated, ” we are hearing that the state government is planning to introduce electronic voting in the forthcoming local government council polls in the state,although, we have not been officially communicated, we the entire members of PDP in the state and other political parties, we will not accept it.
“We are going to challenge that, saying, even if they introduced it, election results must be announced immediately at each polling units.”
On the security challenges in the southern part of the state, he said, the government needs to be more proactive in addressing the situation holistically without necessarily playing politics with the lives of citizens.
Similarly, in his remarks at the occasion, the guest of honour, distinguished Senator Ahmed Mukhtar Aruwa also noted,” now we must speak with one voice to avoid mistakes of the past and in order to re-build the party especially at state and local governments levels.” Aruwa added.
Aruwa lamented, “we played a role in destabilising our party in the past, adding that losing elections is not the end of PDP, saying, it will be back in full force.”
He however warned against any form of imposition of candidates on people, saying, that is the only way re-building the party particularly in Kaduna state can be achieved.
In their respective speeches, the Zone 11 Chairman of the party, Hon Shehu Ahmed Giant, Hon. Hussaini Muhammad Jallo, Hon. Umar Sani all disclosed that the PDP re- conciliatary committee chaired by former Minister of Finance, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman has recorded significance successes, stressing Kick many aggrieved members have now decided let go the past, forgive and forget and now ready to work towards the success of the party in the state and at the national level.
Earlier, the Kaduna North local government chairman of the party, Alhaji Hamisu Dantajiri congratulated the newly inaugurated ward executives and urged them not to disappoint their members or let down the confidence reposed on them.
